Radon detectors: C-NRPP listed, not recommended and recalled

This table lists the consumer electronic radon monitors named in C-NRPP’s 2024/25 Consumer-grade Electronic Radon Monitor Performance Report, as we checked it on 18 October 2026. It keeps three statuses apart: C-NRPP’s consumer listing, C-NRPP’s professional approval and Health Canada’s recalls. Each status has its own source, and every row carries the date we checked it.

Listed and recommended means the monitor passed C-NRPP performance testing

A monitor that C-NRPP lists and recommends passed its performance testing with an average grade of A or B. The grade comes from the monitor’s measurement error over four test rounds. The table shows the grade from each round.

The rounds ran in the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada’s accredited chamber. Two ran at 200 Bq/m³, one in winter conditions and one in summer conditions. The other two ran at 400 and 1,000 Bq/m³.

Recalled monitors measured inaccurate radon levels

The recalled and flagged monitors in this table measured inaccurate radon levels. Some reported a low value no matter what the actual level was. For each of these devices, the table gives the Health Canada recall or advisory that C-NRPP links to, with that notice’s date.

Not recommended is C-NRPP’s status. A recall or advisory comes from Health Canada. A device can be not recommended without any recall. The table shows each status in its own column with its own source, so check both columns for any device you look up.

Leave a listed monitor in place for a long-term test

C-NRPP says to leave a monitor in place for at least 3 months, preferably in the heating season. If you run it for less time, follow it with a long-term test. Base your decisions on the long-term average. No consumer monitor is approved for professional measurement.

How the table is built, and why it carries no licence yet

We transcribe each row from the C-NRPP report, its detailed results and the Health Canada notices as printed, with the date we checked. No row comes from a manufacturer or seller. The table covers consumer electronic monitors, and other device classes can be added at this same address.

Manufacturers choose whether to enter C-NRPP testing, so a device missing from the table may not have been tested. The data is derived from C-NRPP and Health Canada. It carries no licence statement until its terms are cleared.
