What you can do with the index's data, and which datasets the licence covers
Which Canadian Radon Services Index datasets you can reuse under CC BY 4.0, which third-party-derived datasets are not yet licensed, and how to attribute.
Our own datasets are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), so you can copy, share and adapt them as long as you credit the Index. The licence covers only what we own. A dataset built from another organization’s data carries no licence until we have checked and cleared that organization’s terms. Each dataset page shows its own status beside its downloads.
You are free to copy, share and adapt the Index’s own datasets, with credit
Under CC BY 4.0 you may copy and redistribute a licensed dataset in any medium or format. You may remix, transform and build on it for any purpose, including a commercial one. The one condition is attribution. You may not add restrictions of your own.
Every licensed dataset downloads as CSV and JSON from its page, as a latest file and a dated snapshot named with the dataset and its date. All of them are produced from the same records that render the page’s table. Our code repository is private, so these download files are the only way we distribute public data. See every dataset with its licence status and downloads.
Credit the Index and link to the licence
Attribution under CC BY 4.0 has three parts. You may do this in any reasonable manner, but not in a way that suggests we endorse you or your use.
- Credit: the suggested citation from the dataset page
- Licence: a link to the CC BY 4.0 licence
- Changes: a note that says what you changed, if anything
The credit line for a dataset is the suggested citation on its page. It gives the Index’s name, the year, the dataset title, “[Data set]”, the publisher SIUYA INC. and the page address. A copy button sits beside it. See the citation form for a dataset, a report edition or a single figure.
Datasets derived from a third party’s data carry no licence until it is cleared
A dataset built from another organization’s data carries no licence until that organization’s terms are cleared. As of 19 October 2026, the datasets stand as follows. Each dataset page shows its status, because the list changes as terms clear.
- Radon funding programs: licensed under CC BY 4.0
- Radon rules: licensed under CC BY 4.0
- Providers: not licensed; from C-NRPP’s directory, terms not yet cleared
- Credentials: not licensed; from C-NRPP’s directory, terms not yet cleared
- Radon devices: not licensed; from C-NRPP’s reports and Health Canada’s notices, terms not yet cleared
- Radon levels: no licence and no CSV or JSON download; terms not yet cleared
The radon levels dataset reproduces the 2024 Cross-Canada Radon Survey’s figures as printed. It has no licence and no download until the survey working group gives written permission.
A licensed dataset shows a CC BY 4.0 notice beside its downloads. A dataset that is not cleared shows no notice. See the survey figures and why they have no download yet.
The licence covers the data, and our writing and design stay under copyright
The licence covers the data in the licensed datasets. The site’s own writing, graphics and page design stay under copyright, as the terms for the site and its listings set out. Government publications, standards and survey reports stay under their publishers’ terms. That includes the Cross-Canada Radon Survey’s condition that its figures and tables not be altered.
