Radon grants, loans and free test kit programs by province and territory

Every radon grant, loan, free kit and library lending program by province and territory, with amounts, terms, whether radon is named and date checked.

This table lists every program we found that can pay toward radon testing or mitigation in each province and territory. It covers grants, loans, tax credits, free test kits and library lending. Each row shows the program’s type, whether it names radon, and whether it was open when we checked on 18 September 2026.

Every province and territory has rows. Where we found no radon-specific program, the row’s type is none-found, so a blank is never mistaken for an answer.

See the programs for one province or territory in the funding finder

There is no single federal radon grant

No current federal program gives homeowners radon-specific mitigation money. The Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed, and the program that replaced it does not cover radon.

The one national program in the table is the Canadian Lung Association’s Lungs Matter, which can pay up to $1,500. Because it covers the whole country, it appears once under each province and territory.

See which programs to apply to first in the radon grants guide

Free and loaned kits are listed beside grants and loans

Programs that lower the cost of a test sit in the same table as programs that pay for mitigation. They include the 100 Radon Test Kit Challenge in participating communities in 2025 and 2026, and free kits from LungNSPEI in Nova Scotia. Libraries in Nova Scotia, Saskatoon and Regina lend monitors. A library monitor is a screening tool. It does not give you a long-term test result.

Each row has one of these program types:

  • Grant (grant): money you normally do not repay if you meet the conditions
  • Rebate or reimbursement (rebate): money back after you pay for eligible work
  • Tax credit (tax-credit): lowers the income tax you owe, and does not pay the contractor
  • Loan (loan): money you must repay
  • Forgivable loan (forgivable-loan): part or all may not need repaying if you meet the conditions
  • Free kit (free-kit): lowers the cost of a test, and is not mitigation funding
  • Library lending (lending): a monitor you borrow
  • Warranty coverage (warranty-coverage): new home protection set by law or contract, not a general rebate
  • None found (none-found): we found no radon-specific program

Find out which kit gives you a long-term result

Some programs name radon, and others are general repair programs that do not

The radon status column shows whether a program names radon. It holds one of three values:

  • Named (named): the administrator names radon as eligible
  • Not named (not-named): the administrator does not name radon as eligible
  • Not verified (not-verified): we could not confirm either way from the program’s own sources

The free kit and library lending programs above are marked named. Alberta’s Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP) is marked not named. It is a general repair loan, and radon is not among its listed projects. New Brunswick’s repair program is marked not verified.

See the funding cards for your province

Each program shows whether it was open as of the date checked

The status column says whether a program was current, paused, closed, suspended or returning, and gives the date for that status. We keep closed and paused programs in the table so outdated funding is not mistaken for current funding.

When we checked, Rénovation Québec had been suspended since 1 April 2025, and Caring Breaths in Saskatchewan was closed and due to return in 2026. Where two official sources disagree, the row says so. That is the case for the maximum in New Brunswick’s repair program.

Tell us when a program has changed

How the table is built, and how you may reuse it

We transcribe each row from the program’s own page. Our sources are governments, legislatures, regulators, utilities that run a program, and nonprofits for their own programs. No mitigation company, kit seller or lead-generation site is a source. Each row carries the date we checked it, 18 September 2026.

You may reuse the table under CC BY 4.0. Download it as CSV or JSON below.

Provenance

Source
The program pages of federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments, Manitoba Hydro, Tarion, the Canadian Lung Association, LungNSPEI, Lung Saskatchewan and Take Action on Radon, each read on the date checked.
Method
Rows are transcribed from the research's funding finder (re-verified 18 September 2026) and the primary program page each row cites: governments, legislatures, regulators, utilities that administer a program, and nonprofit administrators for their own programs. No mitigation company, kit seller or affiliate site is a source. Items the research marks unconfirmed are left out.

The data

Radon grants, loans and free test kit programs by province and territory

One record per program per jurisdiction: every grant, rebate, tax credit, loan, forgivable loan, free or subsidized testing, library lending and new home warranty program that can pay toward radon testing or mitigation, or that a government or administrator names beside radon, with the amount and terms as the administrator states them, whether radon is named as eligible, and a dated status. National programs appear once per jurisdiction. A jurisdiction with no radon-specific program of its own carries a dated none-found row.
